Concept
Theory Icon Project presents Meatpacking District Artist Ruth Ro exhibition, “Icons of the Meatpacking District.” The show will be exhibited on the “Icon Wall” of the Gansevoort Space, and will be open to the public for one month. The Opening Event will be a preview of the exhibition, guests will include subjects of the paintings and their guests. The exhibition will be open to the public for the following month.
About the Exhibition
Ruth Ro’s "Icons of the Meatpacking District" will consist of approximately 40 people who play significant roles in creating the character of this neighborhood. Whether it is through preservation, creation, change, or advocacy of this neighborhood, the Icons of the Meatpacking District are persons who have defined or are defining the neighborhood.
The Meatpacking District is one of the fastest developing neighborhoods in New York City. This portrait show takes a snapshot of all those who have a hand in the change. The list of Icons is made up of business owners, residents, meatpackers, landlords, developers, and city leaders but they represent pioneers, loyalists, risk-takers, activists, and dreamers. These people create the neighborhood that visitors see from the outside. This show will reveal the players who create this neighborhood from the inside.
